IPL PhotofacialFrequently Asked Questions
- What is Intense Pulsed Light?
The IPL Photofacial is a skin treatment that can reduce the appearance of damage and subtract years from your complexion. IPL, also known as Intense Pulsed Light therapy or the photo facial, uses cutting edge technology to produce younger-looking skin that’s firmer and more even in tone and texture. With little recovery time and no surgery, IPL offers a safe, FDA-cleared option for sun damage, anti-aging, and skin rejuvenation.
The light energy will gently heat the upper layers of your skin. The heat absorbed by the targeted areas will stimulate your skin cells to regenerate new collagen. This process will restore your skin to its natural beauty, blending its natural colors and making it smoother, vibrant, and younger-looking. In addition, the photothermal energy eliminates the fine vessels that cause redness and reduces the unwanted melanin that produces pigmented lesions. The IPL machine is equipped with advanced cooling features, allowing the use of high-powered energy with minimal discomfort. IPL is a safe, effective approach to younger-looking skin. It is recommended that individuals undergo treatment two to four times per year for optimal results.
What areas can be treated with IPL Photofacial?
We treat the face, chest and back of the hands. That’s because these areas are most often exposed to sunlight and its damaging effects.
Your face is one of the main areas of your body that immediately gives away your age. Years of unprotected sun exposure, harsh cleansers, and the process of aging can do a number on your skin, making it look dull and wrinkled. IPL helps reverse the signs of aging by minimizing sunspots, sun damage, and more.
The procedure is gentle, non-invasive, and safe. While everyone’s tolerance is different, there is usually no need for a topical anesthetic.
- How do I prepare for an IPL treatment?
You should stay out of direct sunlight or tanning beds. After first consulting with your doctor, you should refrain from using certain medications that make you more sensitive to light. During the initial consultation, we’ll carefully review all of the information you need to ensure a comfortable, effective procedure.
- How many IPL treatments will I need?
The number of treatments will depend on your skin and your desired results. We’ll personalize a treatment plan tailored to you and your wants. Your Ideal Image Consultant may also suggest combining your IPL treatment with other popular aesthetic procedures, such as Botox®or Ultherapy®, to further personalize your treatment and help you achieve the look you desire.
- What can I expect after IPL?
Immediately following treatment, you can expect to see mild redness, and it may feel like a slight sunburn in the treated area. This should dissipate after a few hours, but in some cases, it could last a day or two. You can start to see healthier looking skin just several days after treatment. Sunspots, age spots, and or broken blood vessels usually begin to clear up in one to two weeks.
